Stages of Training in Hakomi


Level One:

Personhood Level:

  1. The Practice of Loving Presence

  2. Quieting the Mind

  3. Wisdom Without Words

  4. Emotional Nourishments

Participants are introduced to Hakomi through a variety of experiential practices to gently cultivate more self-awareness and understanding, qualities of personal freedom and creativity and a genuine appreciation for oneself and others. You'll begin to learn and practice some simple yet powerful ways to respond more effectively to suffering.

This level may be offered as workshops open to the public or as part of a training. The whole series must be completed (minimum 12 days) prior to or during Level 2.


Level Two:

Hakomi Experiential Method Skills Level (18 Days minimum over 1-2 Years)

Participants, having completed the Personhood Level, learn more about the techniques and skills of the Hakomi Method. Here you will explore the many ways people express themselves verbally and non-verbally You begin to help each other understand and transcend limiting beliefs and habitual behaviours. In the Skills Level you'll learn to use the method to discover how you organise your experience based on these core patterns, and to help each other find ways to be more authentic and compassionate, more connected with each other and with life.


Level Three:

Hakomi Experiential Method Advanced Level (18 Days minimum over 2-3 Years)

For those participants who have completed the Skills Level or equivalent Hakomi training and who wish to deepen their understanding and application of Hakomi for personal and/or professional use. You will have many opportunities to practice using the method with supervision and to focus either one-to-one or group applications of the Hakomi Experiential Method.


In all levels of the Hakomi Experiential Method, the work we do is informed by a mind/body/spirit perspective toward personhood and community development. This focus provides both a strong foundation and the primary motivation for the learning. The approach is grounded in the practice of mindfulness and loving presence and has been referred to as 'applied Buddhism'.

The Skills Level or equivalent Hakomi training must be completed for someone to continue with the Advanced Level. Levels One and Two are a total of 30 days minimum. The complete training is usually for a minimum of 40-54 days for all three levels.

For certification as a Hakomi practitioner, an applicant will demonstrate proficiency to two Hakomi trainers after completion of the training.
